S ilter has been historically produced in the Alpine and pre-Alpine area, extending from Lake Iseo to the Tonale and Gavia mountain passes. The area’s vastness, the wide range of altitudes and the morphology of the numerous lateral valleys (Val Palot, Valle delle Messi, Val Saviore, Crocedomini etc.), with varying climates, are united by this unique cheese production process practiced from the bottom of the valley to the mountain tops. 170 dairy farms are located in the Silter DOP region of the valley floor and its Alpine pastures. The production area includes the following towns of the Brescia province, listed below in alphabetical order:
